Restrictions on plying of heavy vehicles in Odisha’s twin cities for smooth Dussehra

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has imposed restrictions on plying of heavy vehicles in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for smooth Dussehra celebration.

As per a notice issued by the Commissionerate Police, no goods carrier (truck or trailer having six or more wheels) will be allowed to ply on National Highways (NHs) and State Highways (SHs) in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack from 4 pm to 2 am till October 25 for the convenience and safety of common people during Dussehra.

No heavy vehicle shall be allowed to ply on the NHs and SHs from Pitapalli and Uttara Squares towards Bhubaneswar and from Manguli and Kandarpur Squares towards Cuttack from 4 pm to 2 am from October 21 to 25 to avoid traffic congestion during the festival, said the notice.

“The common people often face inconvenience due to traffic congestion on NHs and SHs passing through the twin cities during festivals. The Commissionerate Police has imposed restrictions on plying of heavy vehicles in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for the safety and convenience of the people,” added the notice.

The Commissionerate Police has imposed restrictions by virtue of the powers conferred on it under Section 28 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003 (Odisha Act of 2007) and pursuance of Regulation 36 of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) Regulations, 2008.

Violation of the restrictions imposed by the Commissionerate Police will invite a penalty of Rs 500. The amount may be increased to Rs 1,000 per offence, read the notice.
