Rhea moves SC after Sushant Singh Rajput’s father files FIR

Mumbai: Days after Sushant Singh Rajput’s father KK Singh filed an FIR against the rumoured girlfriend of the late actor in Patna, the actress moved the Supreme Court over the case.

Rhea Chakraborty moved a petition in the apex court seeking transfer of investigation in the case to Mumbai.

“We have filed a petition in Supreme Court seeking transfer of investigation in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case to Mumbai,” Rhea’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde said.

The ‘Dil Bechara’ star’s father lodged an FIR with Rajiv Nagar police station under various sections of IPC on July 25 owing which a four-member team had visited Mumbai in connection with the investigation. Apart from the actress, five others have also been named in the FIR.

The case was lodged under various sections of IPC including 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 380 (theft in dwelling house), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 306 (abetment of suicide).

In the police complaint, Sushant’s father also alleged that the actress and her family members have stolen his son’s laptop, cash, jewellery, credit cards with PIN numbers etc. besides, the actress was threatening the late actor of making his medical reports public.

The 34-year-old actor was found hanging from the ceiling of his apartment in suburban Bandra on June 14.

Rajput’s suspected death by suicide has also triggered a nationwide debate on alleged nepotism in Bollywood. The actor, said to be under medication for depression, was allegedly boycotted by big banner production houses. The series of contract cancellations reportedly left him depressed leading to his premature exit.

Several personalities from the film industry, activists and political leaders demanded a CBI probe into the actor’s death.

Notably, around 40 people have already recorded their statements, including director-producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, filmmakers Aditya Chopra, Mukesh Chhabra, Shekhar Kapoor, Mahesh Bhatt, and film critic Rajeev Masand.

Earlier, Rhea Chakraborty’s statement was recorded at the Bandra Police Station, four days after Sushant’s mysterious death.
