Road Accident: 18 killed as van hits truck in West Bengal’s Nadia

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, at least 18 people were killed and five others sustained critical injuries as the van in which they were travelling hit a truck in West Bengal’s Nadia district on Saturday night, reports said.

The mishap took place when more than 20 persons were heading towards Navadwip crematorium in the ill-fated vehicle carrying bodies from Bagda of North 24 Parganas.

The van collided with the truck parked on roadside at Phulbari under Hanskhali police limits, killing several occupants of the vehicle on the spot.

The accident happened due to thick fog and high speed of the van, police said.

The injured ones have been admitted to hospital.

Police have started an investigation into the incident.
