Road accidents claim 5 lives in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: At least five persons died in separate road accidents in Odisha today.

An SUV dashed into a truck from rear at Palaspanga under Sadar police limits in Keonjhar district killing a married couple, identified as Ballabh Chandra Mahakud and Bani Devi Mahakud of Balani in the district.

Another occupant of the car sustained critical injuries in the mishap and was admitted to Padmapur hospital.

In Balasore district, a bus hit a stationary truck from rear early this morning on NH-16 at Barikapur in Soro area resulting in death of the bus helper. The deceased has been identified as Manu Tudu (50) of Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district.

The ill-fated vehicle was heading towards Rairangpur from Bhubaneswar. All passengers of the bus are reportedly safe. The particular truck was parked on roadside for installation of a new tyre, during which the speeding bus rammed into the truck, reports said.

A truck collided with a motorcycle on which two persons were travelling, killing one of them near Nehena village under Khadial police limits in Nuapada district today. The deceased has been identified as Payal Saraf. Her uncle Devraj Saraf was injured in the accident and hospitalised.

A youth died after the motorcycle he was riding dashed against an electric pole on NH-57 near Rajanpali Chhak in Boudh district. The deceased was identified as Shiva Prasad Raj.
