Road mishaps killed 43,312 in Odisha in last 10 yrs: Min

Bhubaneswar: As many as 43,312 people have lost their lives in road accidents across Odisha in the last ten years, that implies 12 people die every day due to road crashes.

Replying to a written question of BJP MLA Dilip Ray, State Transport and Commerce Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu told Odisha Assembly today about the casualties related to motor vehicle accidents across the State.

The Minister said as many as 61,884 persons were critical in several road mishaps from 2008 to 1018 in the State.

The State Transport Department has also successfully cracked down on reckless drivers in the State. A whopping Rs 2 crore was collected as fine from traffic violaters in the last decade, he informed.

Similarly, the Department had collected Rs 1.5 crore fine from people for driving without a valid license.

In his reply, the Minister further added that as many as 82, 762 driving licenses have been cancelled in the last eight years due to repeat offences.
