Robbers held, looted jewellery recovered

Brahmapur, April 27:

Police today claimed to have arrested seven members of a robber’s gang from Sorada in Odisha’s Ganjam district and recovered ornaments looted at gunpoint from a house last month.

Reports said a gang had on March 9 broken into the house of one Durgamadhav Mishra in Gopalpur Sasan near Sorada and looted around 60 grams of gold and 125 grams of silver ornaments along with three mobile phones and Rs 70,000 cash at gun point.

IIC Sorada Santosh Kumar Jena said police apart from recovering all the looted gold and silver ornaments and three mobile phones, have also seized a pistol, some ammunition and two motorcycles from them.

However, Rs 70,000 looted from the house could not be recovered as the gang is believed to have spent the amount, police sources said.

The arrested gang members have been identified as Dillip Behera (29) of Gajalabadi, Padma Charan Nayak (21) of Gopalpur Shasan, Kalia Nayak (23), Jitendra Nayak (20) and Siba Nayak (21) of Baunsalundi, Bhagirathi Nayak (22) of Bhejiput and Suman Nayak (19) of Mudulipali near Bhanjanagar.

Two others have also been arrested by the police for receiving the looted ornaments from the gang.
