Robbers loot bank at gunpoint in Odisha

In a daring broad daylight heist, 10-12 armed robbers looted over Rs 50 lakh from the Beheramal branch of Bank of India in Odisha’s district headquarters town of Jharsuguda today at around 2 PM.

Reports said about 10-12 armed youth who came on motorcycles entered the Bank of India branch located in the busy Beheramal locality of Jharsuguda.

The men who had masks on their faces and were armed with pistols and knives first overpowered the officer who was officiating as the branch manager and later at gunpoint huddled all bank employees and customers into one room.

They first took away whatever cash was lying at the cash counter and later took away whatever was there in the strong room.

While one of the miscreants was speaking in Bengali, others were speaking in Hindi.  They fled the place immediately after committing the crime, reports added.

Reports further said that though no proper estimate of the loot has been made, according to bank officials the total loot amount may be over Rs 50 lakh.

Jharsuguda SP Uma Shankar Dash and other senior police officials have arrived at the bank to investigate the matter.

Police have sealed all exit points of the industrial town to prevent the miscreants from escaping.
