Roof of bank collapses in Odisha’s Sambalpur; zero casualties reported

Sambalpur: Following incessant rain that battered the district for the last few days, the roof of the cooperative central bank (SDCCB Limited) which was in rundown condition caved in today in Sambalpur.

This was reported from the city branch of the bank near Kunjelpada Chhak of the district.

According to official sources, the bank runs in a rented house. The front portion of the roof has collapsed. However, eventualities could be averted as the bank was closed due to the holiday.

“The building was in a dilapidated condition and rainwater was leaking through the roof due to lack of proper maintenance. The bank’s counters are often covered with polythene sheets and the branch is closed following rains. This is a very old building. Previously, the bank was known as Mahila Branch and only women workers were then working in the city branch,” some local residents stated.

Now, the branch has around seven employees, the locals expressed.

On being informed, employees of the bank including the branch in-charge reached the spot.

When contacted, the branch manager said, “We have informed about this problem to our higher-ups in the bank’s head office. We are looking for a new house on rent and will shift the branch.”
