Rourkela engineering student gang-raped in Jharkhand

Rourkela: A girl student of a private engineering college in Odisha’s Rourkela city was allegedly gang-raped in Jharkhand.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the Rourkela Government Hospital. The Government Railway Police (GRP) has started investigation into the incident after registering a case.

As per the allegations by the girl, she was waiting for a train at the Rourkela railway station on December 31 to reach Jharsuguda, from where she hails. In the meantime, she met a friend of her brother at the station, who told her to board a particular train along with him to reach Jharsuguda.

However, the girl soon realised that she was deceived by the youth as the train was not heading towards Jharsuguda, rather travelling in a different route.

The youth advised her to alight from the train at the Lotapahar railway station in Jharkhand and take a bus to reach Jharsuguda. However, he took her to a house after both reached the station.

Later, five friends of the youth arrived at the house and allegedly gang-raped the girl for two days. They released her on January 1, following which she lodged a police complaint in this regard. Investigation into the matter is underway.
