Rourkela: Mentally-challenged woman spends five days with mother’s body inside house

Rourkela: A mentally-challenged 40-year-old woman reportedly spent five days with her mother’s body inside her house before being rescued by police at Basanti Colony in Odisha’s Rourkela city, last night.

The deceased was identified as Manju Puri (70). Her body was found in a decomposed state.

According to reports, locals detected foul smell emanating from the house and informed the Uditnagar police as they suspected foul play.

Police reached the spot, entered the house by breaking open the door and recovered the body. The cops also rescued the mentally-challenged woman and admitted her to the Rourkela Government Hospital.

The body has been sent for post-mortem while the cause of the death can be ascertained after submission of the autopsy report, said police.

Notably, Narottam Puri, husband of the woman, had died of COVID-19, last year.
