Bhubaneswar: The police seized cash amounting to Rs 10 lakh from a car at a check post near Nayagarh-Boudh border during the first phase Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in Odisha today.

A static surveillance team (SST) of Purunakatak police station in Boudh district found the cash from a car while checking vehicles at Madhapur ahead of the second phase polls in the state.

The cops reportedly found the banners and posters of a particular political party from the car.

They brought the car to Purunakatak police station and launched a probe into the incident. The driver of the car and two women, who were travelling in the vehicle, were detained for questioning.

The police have informed the incident to the Income Tax department. The officials of the I-T dept will soon reach Purunakatak police station to find out the source of the money, sources said.

Notably, four Lok Sabha seats—Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Berhampur and Koraput—and 28 Assembly seats under their jurisdictions went for polls in the first phase in the state today.
