Rs 10 lakh withdrawn fraudulently from bank a/c of Odisha IPS officer’s wife

Bhubaneswar: Miscreants allegedly withdrew Rs 10 lakh from the bank account of a senior Odisha-cadre IPS officer’s wife in a fraudulent manner.

As per a complaint filed by Anuja Tripathy, wife of senior IPS officer Susanta Nath, fraudsters withdrew Rs 10 lakh from her salary account over a period of two years. She also mentioned while withdrawals were done from her account, she did not receive any SMS alerts. She was unaware of the transactions until recently.

In her complaint filed with the Odisha Crime Branch, Tripathy stated she was not using this bank account much. In March 2019, she had complained to the bank regarding an unauthorised transaction in her account as Rs 2,000 got credited without her knowledge. She had then blocked her debit card. After thorough verification by the bank, her card was restored a month later.

Tripathy mentioned in the complaint that there were at least 31 unauthorized transactions between 2019 and now, without her knowledge.

A few days back, unidentified cyber fraudsters reportedly tried to cheat Crime Branch ADG Sanjeeb Panda by sending him a message impersonating his friends and asking for money for medical expenses.

Last month, the Whatsapp account of Odisha Computer Application Centre’s (OCAC) CEO, Manoj Kumar Pattnaik was hacked. A Nigerian national was arrested in connection with the case from Bengaluru.
