Rs 35 lakh looted from bank employees in Odisha’s Sambalpur; one detained

Kuchinda: The employees of Andhra Bank were allegedly robbed of Rs 35 lakh at gunpoint in Odisha’s Sambalpur district today evening. When the Branch Manager of Andhra Bank, Laimura branch, another bank employee and driver were returning from Sambalpur in a four-wheeler after collecting cash, two bike borne persons intercepted them near Thuntipipal under Kuchinda police limits. Four other bike-borne miscreants also reached from the behind of the four-wheeler.

The miscreants then threatened the bank employees and snatched a bag containing Rs 35 lakh at gun point. After looting the cash, the miscreants fled the spot.

Based on a complaint filed at Kuchinda police station, police launched an investigation and put up check points to nab the miscreants. Sambalpur SP Kanwar Vishal Singh also reached Kuchinda to monitor the investigation.

Meanwhile, the police detained the four-wheeler driver suspecting his involvement in the loot.
