Fine imposed, vehicle impounded after marriage party violates COVID-19 norms in Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: Amid the spurt in COVID-19 cases, there has been allegedly blatant violation of social distancing norm during a marriage procession of a hotel owner’s son in another star hotel in Goplapur of Ganjam district. After visuals of the marriage procession were telecast by media, the Ganjam district administration fined Rs 50,000 on the hotel where the marriage was held.

The visuals of the marriage procession show the participants were dancing together without maintaining social distance norm and wearing masks.

Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra said two cases have been registered at Gopalpur police station and investigation has begun into the matter.

He further informed the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has impounded the vehicle in question.

Later the Berhampur Police arrested the father and uncle of the groom whose marriage procession was held without adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.

So far, as many as 2,066 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in Ganjam district.
