RSP deaths: Two DGM rank officials suspended for negligence of duties

Rourkela: Hours after four labourers engaged at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) were killed due to the gas leakage, authorities of the plant suspended two senior officials for alleged negligence of duties.

The RSP authorities placed two Deputy General Manager (DGM) rank officials, Gopabandhu Barik of EMD department and Nabendu Das of CCD Mechanical Department of the plant under suspension.

Also, the authorities decided to provide job to one family member of each deceased.

Earlier in the day, while opening flange bolts of the gas line of the gas mixing tank at the Site A of the plant, some entrapped gas rushed out affecting four workers of the contract firm, Star Construction critically. The four workers were admitted to the nearby hospital and later shifted to the IGH where doctors declared them dead at around 11:40 AM.

The deceased were identified as Brahmananda Panda, Abhimanyu Sha, Ganesh Chand Pahil and Rabindra Sahoo.
