According to reports, Ranjan Singh (37), a technician, fell from a height of 30 feet while he was engaged in maintenance work in the blast furnace-2 unit of the plant.

Ranjan, who was critically injured, was taken to the Ispat General Hopital (IGH) where the doctors pronounced him ‘brought dead’.

The trade union leaders who rushed to the IGH alleged that the technician died due to negligence by the management.

Blast Furnace-2 has been defunct for quite some time and the condition of stairs that leads up to the furnace were in a corroded state, they said, adding, the management should have checked the condition of the stairs before asking the deceased to climb it.

Ironically, the RSP management was busy observing the National Safety Day when the accident occurred.

The management has offered a job to the next of kin of the deceased, sources said.
