RTO official in Odisha pedals to raise environmental awareness

Malkangiri: A senior RTO official in Malkangiri district has adopted a unique way to raise environmental awareness among people.

By pedaling a bicycle daily for minor work near the locality, the Malkangiri RTO officer Prahallad Behera spreads a message to keep the pollution away.

He pedals 5-7 km per day when he goes outside for work. Regular cycling is also the key reason behind his physical fitness.

“The vehicle was invented out of necessity. It should be used in need. But, we should ride a bicycle to control pollution and reduce the accident rate. If we will do our minor work by walking or moving on cycle, we will also be fit physically,” said Behera.

“I always do minor work by riding the cycle. Even, I do not prefer using office vehicle for my personal work,” he added.

The RTO official always suggests the youth for careful driving and use a bicycle to make the town green and pollution-free.

“The youth should drive vehicle with caution. Normally, the youth between the age group 20 and 40 drive fast to reach their destinations. This is the chief reason behind the road accident. They can avoid the road mishap if they start early from home and have sufficient time to reach their workplace,” Behera said.
