RTOs in Odisha to remain open on this Government holiday

Cuttack: The State Transport Authority, Odisha today asked all the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) to remain open on October 31, 2020 for vehicle registrations even though the day is a government holiday on the occasion of Laxmi Puja.

In an order, the Transport Commissioner-Cum-Chairman asked the Registration Section of all RTOs to remain open for on October 31, 2020 from 3 PM to 5 PM to receive the registration documents from dealer and allotment of registration number.

The decision regarding the RTO offices has been taken as it is expected that sale of motor vehicles would increase during Laxmi Puja this year.

As per Rule 42 of CMV Rules 1989, no dealer can deliver any motor vehicle without its registration and affixing HSRP number plate.

It is worth to be mentioned that there are three Government holidays from October 30, 2020 to November 1, 2020 three days) on the occasion of Laxmi Puja. Hence, it might be difficult situation for the dealers to get their newly sold vehicle registered at RTO Offices.

The State Transport Authority order added the RTOs shall make necessary roster arrangement accordingly and also intimate to all the dealers under their jurisdiction regarding such facility.

For smooth disposal of dealer point registration and approval, the RTOs asked to do the same from home for all the three days, the order stated.

“In no case the dealers should deliver any new motor vehicle violating Rule 42 of CMV Rule 1989, without registration and affixing HSRP number plate. All RTOs are instructed to check the dealer premises and ensure that, no vehicle is delivered without registration and affixing HSRP. In case the dealer is delivering the vehicles without registration and affixing HSRP, steps will be taken for cancellation or suspension of the trade license of the dealer,” the order mentioned.
