Bhubaneswar: The second day of the Budget Session of the Odisha Assembly witnessed ruckus by BJP members in the House as they protested the arrest of party's leader and former minister Jayanarayan Mishra leading to repeated adjournments.

Several BJP legislators rushed to the well of the House while Co-Operation, Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Surjya Narayan Patro was replying to a question during the Question Hour.

Protesting the arrest of Mishra, the BJP members shouted slogans near Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat's podium. Amid pandemonium, the Speaker adjourned the House initially till 11.30 am, later till 12.30 pm, further till 3 pm and eventually till tomorrow as similar scenes prevailed everytime the House reassembled.

"The Odisha police is acting as BJD agent. The party is using the police department to arrest its strong political opponents. We today demanded in the House a CBI probe into the Banabira firing incident. Jayanarayan Mishra has no involvement in the case," said BJP MLA Pradip Purohit speaking to reporters outside the House.

"We had today expected cooperation from all members of the Opposition parties over discussion on farmer issues. However, the way the BJP members created pandemonium over an 'isolated' case is not acceptable at all," said BJD MLA Sanjay Das Burma outside the House.

On the other hand, Leader of Opposition and Congress MLA Narasingha Mishra criticised both the BJD and the BJP for ignoring the farmers' plight.

"The Congress had moved an adjournment motion to discuss farmers' issue. But the BJP, having connivance with the BJD, disrupted the proceedings to avoid a discussion on the issue," said Mishra outside the House.

Worth mentioning, earlier in the day, the Speaker had accepted an adjournment motion notice moved by the Congress over farmer issues.

Notably, Jayanarayan Mishra was arrested on March 15 in connection with a firing incident near Banabira village under Sohela block of Bargarh district in which a BJD worker had died. Mishra had termed the arrest as a ‘political conspiracy’.
