Ruling BJD appeals Opposition not to politicise missing of woman teacher case

Bhubaneswar: As the Odisha unit of BJP and Congress trained guns on Minister of State Captain Dibyashankar Mishra accusing him of having links with a detainee who escaped from police custody in Kalahandi district, the ruling BJD asked the Opposition parties to refrain from politicising the matter.

In a statement, BJD Spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said the missing of a woman school teacher and escape of a person, who was detained in connection with the case, from police custody are sensitive matters and investigation is on.

Mohanty further appealed the Odisha BJP and Congress to desist from playing cheap politics on such sensitive issues.

Earlier in the day, BJP MP from Kalahandi, Basant Panda demanded Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to remove Minister of State Captain Dibyashankar Mishra from the Council of Ministers. Panda claimed Mishra was having a rapport with the detainee, Govind Sahu, who escaped from the police custody last night. The BJP leader accused the Minister’s involvement in the detainee’s escape and stated Mishra have been conspiring to mislead the police investigation.

Panda requested the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter so that the missing woman teacher, Mamita Meher could be rescued and handed over to her family.

Congress MLA from Kantabanji, Santosh Singh Saluja, also demanded resignation of Minister Dibyashankar Mishra as several photos of the accused with Mishra have surfaced. Yesterday, Saluja met the family members of Mamita.

Worth mentioning, Govind Sahu, managing committee president of Sunshine English Medium School at Mahaling in Kalahandi district, was detained by the police for his alleged involvement after the woman teacher of the school went missing.

Sahu, who was detained at the Titlagarh police barrack, escaped last night. In connection with this, the Balangir SP suspended three police personnel on charges of dereliction of duty today.

Mamita has been missing since ten days. Her family members alleged that Sahu was sexually harassing women employees of the school and forcing them to have physical relation with him.

Mamita’s family members further claimed she had warned Sahu of exposing him and bringing his illicit affairs to fore, and this could be the reason why she has become untraceable.
