Sundargarh: Bringing smile on the faces of farmers in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, the district administration provided ‘Sabji Coolers’ or Zero Cooling Chambers to more than 50 farmers in three blocks in the first phase.

An official said the district administration in association with local NGO and Rukart set up more than 50 ‘Sabji Coolers’ in Balishankara, Kuarmunda and Tangarpali blocks. The cooler helps farmers in preserving the vegetables before selling it in the market.

A farmer said as the Sabji Cooler runs without electricity or solar power, there is absolutely zero maintenance and utility costs. Each cooler has a capacity to store 100 kg of vegetables and keeps them fresh for a week, the farmer added.

The official added 50 more Sabji Coolers will be built in the district in coming days.

Mumbai-based Rukart Technologies is providing equipment and technical support for the setting up of the coolers whereas the financial assistance is being provided from the Periphery Development Fund.
