Sabyasachi quizzed by Odisha police

The police today began its interrogation of Odisha’s top Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda here at the SP office premises.

The interrogation which started around 1.25pm in the afternoon continued till the lunch break at 3.25pm. The second round of interrogations began at 5pm in the evening and was continuing at the time of filing of this report.

Sabyasachi’s lawyer Deepak Patnaik, who was all through present during the first round of interrogation told the media persons that the Brahmapur SP, the SDPO Brahmapur and four other police officers were present during the interrogation.

“The questions asked to Panda were mainly about his days as a child and as a young man as also his college days. Sabyasachi was very cool while responding to their questions “, the lawyer said.

Before the first round of interrogation Sabyasachi’s wife Mili Panda met him at the SP office for about 15 minutes. She was allowed to meet Panda alone as no one else was allowed to accompany her.

Mili told media perosns that her husband has been medically examined and provided with food and treatment at the jail. She said her husband had a swelling in his eyes which required specialized treatment.

“I had a brief chat with him. He said he was beaten up. I enquired about his health. He said he has been medically examined and also provided with food and drinks as well as medicines for his injured eye. It would have been nice if they had allowed his mother to meet him. I have requested the SP to allow her  to meet him”, she said.

Sources said the second round of interrogation which started at 5pm was being done by the special intelligence wing (SIW) of the police and both the SP Brahmapur and the DIG (South) are taking part in the second round of interrogations.

Sabyasachi’s lawyer Deepak Patnaik is also present at the chamber where the interrogation is underway.
