Saddened by son’s death, parents commit suicide in Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: A couple allegedly committed suicide at Narayanpursasan village under Kabisuryanagr police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district today after being unable to bear the death of their son.

According to reports, deceased Simanchal Satpathy (27) was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bhubaneswar and breathed his last this evening.

Saddened by the untimely demise, his father and mother took the extreme step of ending their lives. While his father was found hanging from a tree near the house, the body of his mother was found hanging inside the house.

Police have recovered the bodies for post-mortem and initiated investigation into the matter.

Source said that Simanchal was working as a teacher. He was on Corona duty at a quarantine centre in Kabisuryanagar area. He was shifted to the SUM Hospital in Bhubaeswar after he developed breathing complication on July 1. His swab sample was sent for COVID test. However, he died under treatment at the hospital today. His father was a tax collector at Kabisuryanagar NAC.
