Samaleswari Express train derails in Odisha

Rayagada: Four days after a major mishap was averted near Cuttack Railway station, a similar incident took place as an express train derailed in Odisha’s Rayagada.

Howrah-Jagdalpur (18005) Samaleswari Express derailed at around 5.16 pm at Keutaguda station near Rayagada. The incident took place around 20 km from Rayagada.

The engine jumped the track. However, no casualties were reported.

As per sources, one pair of wheels (front trolley) of the train got derailed.

According to reports, fishplates were found missing which reportedly caused the derailment. Following the incident, train movement was affected.

“Extra engine has been rushed to the site to get the coaches back to Singapur Road. Then, Relief Train from Rayagada will go to site and rerail the engine,” ECoR sources said.

It may be recalled here that a major mishap was averted three days ago near Cuttack station. On last Monday night, an aluminium plate detached from the trolley spring of Howrah-Puri Jagannath Express train coach. However, alert Railway staff detected it and separated the affected coach.
