‘Sambad’ felicitates reporter who broke story on use of cycle pump in Odisha tubectomy camp

Premiere Odia daily ‘Sambad’ on Thursday felicitated Rajesh Kumar Nayak, its Banarpal block correspondent, who broke the sensational story on the use of a bicycle pump in tubectomy oeprations at a sterlisation camp in Banarpal on November 28.

sambadFelicitating Nayak at ‘Sambad Bhawan’ here, chairman of Eastern Media Ltd (EML) Soumya Ranjan Patnaik said the story proved that big news does not necessarily emanate in Bhubaneswar; even news from rural areas can make it to the front page of newspapers.

Nayak was presented a bouquet, a citation and cash award by the EML chairman.

The news of the use of a bicycle pump to pump in air into the abdomen of women at a sterilisation camp at Banarpal Community Health Centre (CHC) in Angul district was subsequently picked up by the national and international media.

Among others, CGM, (News), Sambad Bamapada Tripathy, EML Managing Director Monica Nayyar Patnaik; director Tanaya Patnaik; editor (Sambad editorial) Ranjit Guru; editor (Sambad feature) Gourahari Das; COO, Kanak TV Swaraj Mishra and COO, Sambad Kamalakanta Mohapatra were present on the occasion.
