Sambad’s month-long massive talent hunt ends

Bhubaneswar: The month-long exercise conducted by Odisha’s leading daily ‘Sambad’ to identify young talents from grassroots level ended at a glittering function here Wednesday.

After screening of talents across the state, the winners were selected at the final rounds in various categories at Jayadev Bhawan here.

The results of zonal level debate and ‘Sa Re Ga Ma’ song competitions were declared.

Kiran Kumar Mohanty from Institute of Media Studies, Bhubaneswar bagged first position while Satyashiv Paramanik, a student of Parala Maharaja Engineering College, Berhampur secured second spot.

Monalisa Rana from Angul Autonomous College got third rank. Total 23 students from 8 zones had participated in the debate titled ‘It is now party not land bigger in democracy’.

Kiran, Satyashiva and Monalisa received cash rewards of Rs 8,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively.

Odisha Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout, Congress veteran and leader of Opposition Narsingh Mishra, BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra and political commentator Surya Narayan Mishra were the judges of the debate competition.

“At a time when English medium schools are mushrooming in the State and students are reluctant to speak in Odia, the initiative by ‘Sambad’ is truly praiseworthy and necessary,” said the elated Kiran.

In the Sa Re Ga Ma (song) competition, the participants performed light songs, bhajans and modern Hindi and Odia songs.

Abhishek Panda, Jyotiprasad Ojha and Sabyasachi Das secured first, second and third spot respectively and received cash rewards of Rs 8,000, Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively.

Participants from Bhubaneswar, Khordha, Nayagarh, Balasore, Angul, Bhadrak, Puri and other districts had participated in the event.

Legendary Odia musician Chitta Jena, and music director Prem Anand and popular singer Nazia Alam were the judges of the singing event.

 

In painting category, Ajay Ansuprabh, class V student of D.A.V Public School, CDA in Cuttack, bagged first prize while Bindu Sukesini Das, a class five student from Balasore and Dudulu Mohanty, a class five student from Puri got second and third spot.

Ajay, Bindu and Dudulu received cash reward of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,500 and Rs 2,500 respectively.

In Odia handwriting category, Monalisa Tudu, a class six student from Mayurbhanj secured first position while Sushri Payal Khuntia, a class six student from Sundergarh and Sushri Sikhamanjari Kathar, a class seven student from Balangir stood at second and third spot respectively.

Monalisa, Payal and Sikhamanjari received cash rewards of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,500 and Rs 2,500 respectively.

In Odia essay writing competition, Ganeswari Mhanata, a class ten student from Keonjhar got first prize while Suvendu Das, class nine student from Nayagarh and Sudip Sudarshan Rana, a class ten student from Dhenkanal secured second and third sport respectively.

Ganeswari, Suvendu and Sudip received cash rewards of Rs 7,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively.

All the students were felicitated on the occasion of 33^rd birth anniversary of ‘Sambad’ at Jayadev Bhavan on Wednesday evening.

Worth mentioning, thousands of participants from Class 1 till university level participated in the events with much enthusiasm.
