Sambalpur bombing case: One arrested; police say bomb hurling was fallout of past enmity

Sambalpur: Police have arrested a man over his alleged involvement in the bombing near Peerbaba Chhak in Odisha’s Sambalpur town on Tuesday evening that left three persons injured and damaged a motorcycle.

The accused was identified as Abhilash Mishra of Sunaripada in Khetarajpur area.

Police said the bombing stemmed from past enmity. Abhilash’s father had been previously attacked by another youth, leading Abhilash to seek revenge. He threw a bomb at the person as an act of retaliation.

Abhilash, an ITI student, allegedly made the bomb himself and threw it from a flyover.

Himanshu Lal, Northern range IG, said Abhilash is the sole suspect in this case. He confirmed that Abhilash made the bomb with the sole intent of seeking revenge on someone named Sushil, emphasizing that this was driven by criminal intent and not related to any communal motives.

Mukesh Bhamoo, Sambalpur SP, said the materials related to bomb-making were found in Abhilash’s house, indicating his technical knowledge in this area.
