Sambalpur violence: No internet services for another 48 hours

Sambalpur: Even as normalcy returning to violence-hit Sambalpur town, the district administration extended the suspension of internet services for another 48 hours to avoid untoward situation.

The mobile internet services will not be available till 10 am on April 22. However, the broadband and leased lines will be operational in the western Odisha district from 10 am to 5 pm from today.

Sambalpur town is slowly returning to a state of normalcy after experiencing widespread violence during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations.

The violence broke out in the town between two groups after stone pelted at participants during motorcycle rally ahead of Hanuman Jayanti festival on April 12. At least 10 police personnel and civilians were seriously injured in the clash. The situation turned more critical on Hanuman Jayanti after several shops were vandalised.

Several top BJP leaders including party’s state president Manmohan Samal, union minister Minister Bishweswar Tudu, Bargarh MP Suresh Pujari and former union minister Jual Oram were detained on their way to the violence-hit Sambalpur on April 18.
