The Samjajpur railway overbridge (ROB) in Odisha’s Puri, which was closed for repairing since June 12, reopened today almost after three months.

The reopening of the bridge comes a day after Puri Collector Arvind Agarwal reviewed the repairing works and expressed displeasure. He found the constriction of the road connecting the bridge to be incomplete and warned the authorities of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to stop collection of toll from Pipili toll gate if they fail to reopen the bridge by September 10.

Worth mentioning, the NHAI had assured of making the ROB fully functional by September 10 at a meeting of the Nabakalebara infrastructure supervision committee.

Notably, the overbridge, which was constructed during Nabakalebara last year, had developed cracks at many places. Besides, several portions of road over the bridge had caved in.

After getting a letter from NHAI regarding the poor state of the ROB, the Puri district administration had directed the agency to start repairing and restoration work of the bridge immediately.
