Sanitation worker dies after falling into drain in Odisha’s Cuttack; second in four days

Bhubaneswar: A man reportedly lost his life after he fell into an open drain in Odisha’s Cuttack city today.

The incident occurred three days after the death of a 22-year-old youth in an open drain at Jhola Sahi area of the Silver City.

The today’s incident took place in Barapathara area near Buxi Bazar in Cuttack, sources said.

The deceased has been identified as Narasingha Rao (30). He was reportedly working as a sanitation worker. Rao fell into the open drain while carrying out sanitation work in the locality, sources added.

Rao was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition. But he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors.

The locals, meanwhile, blamed the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) for the mishap and blocked the main road at Buxi Bazar seeking adequate compensation to the deceased sanitation worker’s family.

In the earlier incident, the youth, identified as Rahul from Madhya Pradesh, had recently arrived in Cuttack to visit his relatives some days ago. He fell into the open drain while going to a tea shop at Jhola Sahi on July 16. The youth died while being treated in a hospital in Cuttack.
