Sankashti Chaturthi on 7 June 2023: Chandrodaya/Moonrise Time of major cities in India to Break Upvas/Fast

Sankashti Chaturthi is an auspicious day in Hinduism dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is observed on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the Krishna Paksha (dark lunar phase) of every Hindu month. The word “Sankashti” means deliverance during difficult times, and therefore, it is believed that worshipping Lord Ganesha on this day helps to remove obstacles and bring success in all aspects of life.

On Sankashti Chaturthi, devotees observe a strict fast throughout the day and offer prayers to Lord Ganesha in the evening. The puja (worship) includes chanting of mantras, offering flowers, fruits, and sweets to the deity, and performing the aarti (devotional song). Devotees also recite the Sankashti Chaturthi Vrat Katha, a story that narrates the significance of this day and the benefits of observing the fast.

In some regions, the idol of Lord Ganesha is made of turmeric paste or clay and is worshipped with great devotion. After the puja, the idol is immersed in water, which is believed to wash away sins and purify the body and soul.

Sankashti Chaturthi is considered an auspicious day for initiating new ventures, seeking blessings for success, and overcoming obstacles in life. By observing the fast and offering prayers to Lord Ganesha, devotees seek his blessings for a happy and prosperous life.
