Bhubaneswar: As novel coronavirus continues to infect people in almost all parts of the world, a Sarpanch has tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha, informed State Health & Family Welfare Department today.

Odisha reported 91 fresh cases of COVID-19 today, out of which 87 cases were detected in quarantine centres in several districts. Of 91 positive cases, one Sarpanch has tested positive for the deadly virus among four locals in the state.

Similarly, the deadly virus also spread its wings to western Odisha district Sambalpur that registered a maiden case today. With this, COVID-19 has now presence in 22 districts in Odisha.

Here're today's fresh cases in following districts:

Bhadrak: 28
Balasore: 17
Ganjam: 15
Cuttack: 12
Puri: 7
Keonjhar: 4
Khordha: 3
Balangir: 2
Kendrapada: 1
Sambalpur: 1
Sundergarh: 1

In Bhadrak, all 28 positive cases are symptomatic and have travel history to different states. Of total 28, 17 are Gujarat returnees, 8 West Bengal returnees, 1 has returned from Telangana and 2 are Maharashtra returnees.

All were in institutional quarantine centres, informed Bhadrak Collector Gyana Das.

Here's details of 91 positive cases of COVID-19 in Odisha:
  • Total Positive Cases till 9.00 am today: 828 Active Cases: 628 New Cases: 91
  • 01 case in Kendrapara ( In quarantine centre, Surat returnee) 15 cases in Ganjam (14 in quarantine centres, all Surat returnees & 1 local contact)
  • 02 cases in Balangir ( All in quarantine centres, Surat returnees) 1 case in Sundergarh (In quarantine centre, AP returnee) 1 case in Sambalpur (In quarantine centre, Ahmedabad returnee) 07 cases in Puri (All in quarantine centres. 3 WB, 3 Surat returnees & one local Contact)
  • 17 cases in Balasore (16 in quarantine centres. 2 Surat, 3 WB, 10 Hyderabad & 1 Maharashtra returnees and one local contact)

Meanwhile, 30 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease today taking the total number of recovered cases to 196 in Odisha.

One patient died of corona in Ganjam district, confirmed the Health Department today. With this, Odisha reported four deaths due to COVID-19 as on May 17.
