SAT limits reservation for OAS recruitment at 50%

OST Bureau

Bhubaneswar, Jan 9:

The State Administrative Tribunal, in an interim order on Wednesday, fixed the limit for reservation for various categories of candidates in the recruitment of Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) at 50 percent.

Hearing a PIL filed by Mukesh Chandra Ghosh, an OAS aspirant, the chairman of the Tribunal Justice Nityananda Prusty, while rejecting the plea for a stay on the ensuing OAS preliminary examinations scheduled on January 19, issued notice to the secretary of Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC), special secretary, General Administration and other concerned officials to file a counter in this regard.

The petitioner had prayed to the Tribunal to quash the original notification of OPSC issued on November 11, 2011 and the amended notification of December 16, 2011 since it has quashed the Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) Act citing that the reservation norm has gone beyond 50 percent while the age limit has been relaxed by 5 years instead of 3 years.
