‘Satellite Centre of AIIMS Bhubaneswar to be functional in Balasore this month’

Balasore: The much-awaited Satellite Centre of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar in Balasore district will be functional from this month. This was informed by Dr Mukesh Tripathi, Director of the AIIMS Bhubaneswar during his visit to Balasore for a review of the work progress today.

Dr Tripathi also stated in the initial phase, the Out Patient Department (OPD) facility will start functioning at the Satellite Centre of AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Subsequently, 300 beds will be added to the Satellite Centre, he informed.

During UPA’s second stint the Centre in 2013, a decision was taken to set up the Satellite Centre of the AIIMS Bhubaneswar in Balasore.

Following the Centre’s announcement, the OPD services were available at a venue provided by DRDO in Balasore on Saturdays since 2017. However, the weekly OPD service was suspended in 2020 due to nationwide lockdown for Coronavirus.

The Odisha Cabinet had approved a proposal of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department to lease out 25 acre land under Remuna Tehsil in Balasore district free of cost in favour of the Department of Health & Family Welfare for establishment of the Satellite Centre.
