Say NO to noisy crackers, Know how Odisha celebs celebrate Diwali

Bhubaneswar: As the depression formed in the Bay of Bengal is likely to dampen the Diwali this year, the crackers are nowhere to add charm to the celebration. On every auspicious occasion, we never forget our favourite stars and their style of celebrating the events. The actors in cine industry spare no opportunity to live the moment and share their thoughts with others.

Here are some of the celebs in Ollywood who are excited to celebrate Diwali – the light festival – saying No to Chinese crackers amidst cloudy weather.

Sabyasachi Mishra, actor

The chocolate boy of Ollywood Sabyasachi is not in favour of using high sound crackers on Diwali to keep the environment free from pollution.

“Diwali is the festival of peace and delight. Everyone should celebrate Diwali with their friends and family like me. But I request all to be away from noisy firecrackers so that we can stop environment from sound pollution to some extent,” he said.

The actor also expressed concern for the animals and birds urging people to care for them while celebrating Diwali with noisy crackers.

Anu Choudhury, actor

The most talented actress in Odia film industry Anu Choudhury used to be much excited to celebrate all the Odia festivals especially Diwali.

“As decorating diyas (earthen lamps) and making rangoli on the floor are the specialties of Diwali, I used to remain busy in decorating my home and making rangoli for hours,” she said.

In her message to viewers, she wished for a safe and cheerful Diwali.

“We should burst the firecrackers safely keeping one thing in our mind that we will not invite pain for life time for the sake of one-day pleasure,” she added.

Harihar Mohapatra, comedian

Neither ‘Yes’ to local firecrackers nor Chinese crackers this Diwali, said the actor in comic roles in almost all the Odia films Harihar Mohapatra.

“Diwali is the festival of lights. But, it is confined in bursting crackers more than litting the earthen lamps. It is disturbing when we read about firecracker incidents in the newspaper next day. So, we need to be careful while playing with crackers,” he said.

For him, smile should be blossomed in the lips more than bursting the firecrackers on Diwali.

He urged people to distribute money among countrymen not spending those on purchasing Chinese crackers and benefitting other countries.

Madhumita Mohanty, actor, anchor

She is the known face in Ollywood as an anchor and actress. She tells about rich Odia culture and rituals performed on Diwali by remembering our ancestors.

“Diwali is a major festival for Hindus. We remember our ancestors and invite them to our home through ‘Badabadia daka’ rituals seeking their blessings. Although, I am scared of firecrackers, I enjoy the festival by offering Sparklers to children,” she said.

She will not celebrate Diwali this year due to death of her mother-in-law.
