SC rejects Odisha govt’s plea on reservation in civic polls

Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court today rejected the plea of the Odisha Government in which it had challenged the High Court’s order regarding reservation of seats in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the state.

The apex court upheld the Orissa High Court’s previous order of ensuring that the upper limit of reservation of seats in respect of the SCs, STs and OBCs should not exceed 50 per cent for the forthcoming urban elections.

Challenging the High Court verdict, the State Government had moved the Supreme Court through a Special Leave Petition (SLP).
