Scan beat Rising Student in exciting final, lift NM Bhuyan Memo Trophy

Scan Sporting lifted MCC’s Old Monk Club Soda NM Bhuyan Memorial Trophy today by beating Rising Student, Cuttack by16 runs in an exciting final match at the BJB College ground here.

It was Pravanjan Mallick’s day today as he excelled both with the bat (68) and the ball (4/29) and walked away with a much deserved Man of the Final award. Gaurav Mohapatra was adjudged the Man of the Tournament for his consistently good performance in all the matches he played.

Scan Sporting which won the toss and elected to bat put up a not a very formidable total of 217 – for the loss of 8 wickets.

Pravanjan Mallick was the top scorer with a very well compiled 68. Gaurav Mohapatra (43) and Santosh Devkant (38) were the other two Scan batsmen who helped the team reach 216 despite losing wickets at regular interval.
Deepak Behera was the most successful of Rising Student bowlers – though a tad expensive – and bagged three wickets for 64 runs.

The Rising Student which suffered early in their innings, losing important wickets, appeared all set to win the match when Rajiv Rout (45) was on a roll and Suryakant Pradhan hit a quick fire 38.

Bilkash Pati (29) who looked good, failed to come up with a big score.

Pradhan slammed four sixes including three in consecutive balls in the slog overs. But once he fell, the team was out of contention and folded up in the 38th over, 16 runs short of the target.

Pravanjan Mallick caused the maximum damage by claiming four wickets for just 29 runs. Gaurav Mohapatra followed up on his batting performance and took three wickets for 36 runs while Rabindra Naik got two wickets for 37.

Scan Sporting received the Champion trophy and a cash award of Rs 30,000 from Saswat Mishra, Secretary, Sports & MD, OMC.

Mishra also honoured the Man of the Final, Pravanjan Mallick with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 5000.

Chairman IPL and president OCA Ranjib Biswal presented the Runners-up trophy with cash of 20,000 to the Rising Student team.

Secretary OCA Ashirbad Behera gave away the Man of the Tournament trophy and cash award Rs 10,000 to Gourav Mohapatra. The best batsman award and cash award of Rs 5000 was also bagged by Mohapatra.

While the best Junior cricketers of the year award went to Sandeep Patnaik and Subham Nayak, the best woman cricketer’s award was shared by Madhuri Mehta and Sushree Dibyadarshini Pradhan. Md Jaffar Iqbal ( who represented India in the World Cup for the visually impaired persons) was also felicitated by the organisers, Mukteswar Cricket Club. Each of them were given cash prize of Rs 5000 along with a trophy.
