The medicos have set forth conditions that criminal cases against nine medical students of MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur are dropped and they are released, stringent action against Baidyanathpur (BN Pur) police station official, and tight security in three government medical colleges in the state.

According to sources, the medicos will launch an indefinite cease work agitation if their demands are not met by 5 pm today.

At least 1600 medical students will join the stir.  Odisha Medical Service Association (OMSA) and Indian Medical Association (IMA) have extended their support to the agitation, sources added.

Meanwhile, the students of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla have extended support to the proposed agitation.

Earlier we had written to Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Health Secretary Aarti Ahuja and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking their intervention and resolution of the issue. But, we haven’t received any communication from them as a result of which we have decided to go on a stir, a student of SCB Medical College and Hospital said.

It may be recalled that nine junior doctors, including MKCG Medical College and Hospital Junior Doctors’ Association president Paresh Gouda, were arrested for allegedly assaulting a police assistant sub inspector (ASI) and a journalist on February 2.

Five cases have been registered against the medicos at the BN Pur police station after the incident.
