SCB newborn theft: Babies handed over to parents by Odisha police

Cuttack, Mar 25:

The Twin City Commissionerate police today handed over the two baby boys, who were stolen from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Cuttack recently, to their respective biological parents in the presence of hospital authorities.

The baby, who was stolen on January 5, has been handed over to Gudi Ho and Katiman Mandal of Bihar.

Similarly, the infant, who was stolen on January 8, has been handed over to Puspa and Pabitra Patra of Dhenkanal district.

The Cuttack SDJM court had on March 18 allowed the police to conduct DNA test of the two babies and their parents.

Notably, the two newborns were stolen from the hospital by a woman on January 5 and March 8.

The Mangalabag police, besides rescuing the two babies from Kafla Bazar and Barang, had arrested one Manasi Samal for her alleged involvement in the incident.

She had allegedly stolen the newborns from the hospital identifying herself as an ASHA worker.

Three others, who had purchased the newborns from her, have also been arrested.
