SCB records first dengue death of the year in Odisha

The first dengue related death of the year in Odisha was recorded at the SCB medical college and hospital here yesterday.

Dengue SMALLSIZE The deceased, identified as Hemanta Jena (32), had been living at Dwarika area of New Delhi where he got the disease. He was initially admitted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and was referred to SCB after his condition became critical on Monday.

“The patient had been referred by Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar and was admitted in the medicine ward of SCB at about 11:55 AM on September 14. He was suffering from dengue fever along with circulatory failure. He succumbed to the disease within 24 hours of admission because of the disease,” said Maharana.

Jena, a native of Nilagiri area in Balewsar district, was detected with the disease during a test at a private hospital in Delhi where he works. His wife is also being treated for the same disease, hospital sources said. Jena had married only seven months ago.

As per information provided by the Emergency officer, a Death Review Committee has been formed to look into the reason of the death.

“Like every year, we have formed a Death Review Committee at the SCB. This committee will review the exact causes of the death in complaints pertaining to dengue. In this case, we need to wait for the report from the committee,” he added.

There are about 70 dengue patients currently being treated at the SCB Medical College and Hospital.
