Medicos launch indefinite stir at SCB for autonomous status

Cuttack: Undergraduate students of SCB Medical College and Hospital here resorted to an indefinite strike on the campus demanding Autonomous College status to the institution.

Holding banners and placards, hundreds of medical students sat on a dharna on the premises. The medicos alleged that  since the the medical college is under the accreditation of Utkal University, they have been facing several difficulties,including delay in publication of results. They further alleged that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had promised five years ago to upgrade the medical college to a health university, but nothing has been done in this regard yet.

The agitators warned that they would continue their stir until their demand is fulfilled. They will stage the protest from 10 AM to 5 PM everyday.However, healthcare services will not be affected due to the protest.
