Bhubaneswar: A Class-I boy died after a plaque fell on him in a primary school in Odisha’s Bhadrak district today.

The deceased has been identified as Asit Nayak (6), son of Soubhagya Ranjan Nayak, of Uchhapada village under Dhamnagar block in Bhadrak.

The incident took place while the Class-I boy was playing on the school campus immediate after the students were served the midday meal, sources said.

“The partially-damaged plaque was kept beside the school wall. The plaque fell on the boy while he was playing near it,” said a teacher of Uchhapada Primary School.

The boy’s grandmother, who is working as a cook in the school, immediately pulled him under the plaque, sources said.

The injured boy was rushed to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where he was declared dead on arrival.

The villagers, meanwhile, blamed the school authorities’ casual nature for the tragic incident and sought appropriate action in this regard.
