School bus runs over girl in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: A young girl was crushed under the wheels of a school bus in Odisha capital here today.

The incident took place when the girl along with her mother was crossing the National Highway-16 in Khandagiri area in the capital city in the afternoon.

According to locals, the girl’s mother fell down on the National Highway after she was hit by a biker coming from Khandagiri side in the afternoon. A school bus coming from the opposite side ran over the girl while she was trying to rescue her mother. The girl died on the spot, they said.

The school bus left the place soon after the incident, locals added.

The 16-year-old deceased was a student of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Integral Education, Khandagiri. She belonged to Puri district, sources said.

On being informed, Khandagiri police reached the spot and seized the body before launching a probe into the road mishap.
