School of Commerce launched at Odisha’s Xavier University

Bhubaneswar, July 15:

Odisha’s  Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB) added another feather on its cap when it officially inaugurated its School of Commerce at Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB) Campus here today.

Yesterday, the university had announced the launch of Doctor in Philosophy (PhD) programme in Management.

SpeakerOdisha’s Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department Upendra Nath Behera officially inaugurated the School of Commerce which will provide 3-year graduate programs in Commerce and Management Studies with 240 seats for the current academic session.

Addressing the first batch of XUB’s School of Commerce students, Behera said they were creators of history and torch bearers for the new generation to join in the course.

He thanked Fr. Paul Fernandes S.J., Director and Vice-Chancellor (VC) of XUB for realising the need for a commerce institute in the state and rightly starting a commerce school.

Since banks, insurance and industries have grown manifold, the opportunity that XUB would now offer to commerce students was much needed, he added. He also emphasised on the need to orient students to practical exposure along with classroom education.

The VC emphasised the course structure of the school, which he said has been modelled on the curriculum of some of the best commerce institutes of the country in order to provide the students a very rich learning experience.

Among others Rajib Sekhar Sahoo, Chartered Accountant, SRB and Associates, Father Tony Uvary, S.J., Registrar, XUB and Prof P K Mohanty Dean of the school spoke on the occasion.

School of Commerce will offer courses in Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting, Finance and Bachelor of Management Studies in Marketing and Human Resources.

Students with a minimum of 55 per cent marks in aggregate in any discipline in Plus Two level examinations conducted by any recognized board/university can apply for these courses, XUB sources said.

Eligible candidates will be required to appear for a written test at examination centres in Bhubaneswar, Kolkata and New Delhi.

Selected candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria will be given admission to the respective courses. However, a few seats may be allotted to highly meritorious students (95% and above).

The XUB was formally inaugurated on July 7 at Nijigarh Kurki on the outskirts of the state capital.
