School girls walk 15 km to meet sub-collector for grievance in Odisha

Rairangpur: The girl students of a state-run high school stunned the locals in Rairangpur town of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha for the way of approaching the district administration to lodge grievance over the issues prevailing in their school hostel.

Over 60 girl students of Janata high school under Kusumi block in the tribal district walked for 15 kilometer from school to meet the sub-collector to lodge their grievance. They reached at around 6 pm on Wednesday and met the sub-collector to inform about the condition they live in the hostel.

The students complained against the Headmaster Dayanidhi Giri, who is in-charge of the 110-bed hostel meant for the students belonging to scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) at premises of the high school, for their behaviour towards them in the hostel.

They brought everything — right from the quality of foods served to them in the hostel and the negligence of primary treatment –into notice of the district administration.

The students alleged the Headmaster of misbehaving them under influence of alcohol and grabbing the cosmetic items, made available for them.

The garbage lying around the school and hostel causes healthcare issues, they alleged.

Mayurbhanj sub-collector Gyanaranjan Bhanjdeo heard the grievance of the students and assured them of taking action after investigation.
