Schools, colleges in Odisha remain closed for bandh

Bhubaneswar: In order to ensure the safety of students, the Odisha government today decided to close down schools and colleges across the State on Wednesday after Congress and BJP gave a dawn-to-dusk bandh call in the State demanding justice for Kunduli gang-rape victim of Koraput district, who committed suicide on Monday.

The State government has also directed the educational institutions to shift the examinations scheduled for Wednesday to a suitable date.

“In view of the hartal call given by some political parties, all schools and colleges will remain closed tomorrow to ensure the safety of students. Examination if any may be shifted to a suitable date,” a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said.

Notably, the 14-year-old tribal girl, who was allegedly gang raped by a group of security personnel on October 10 last year, had committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Mushaguda village in Koraput district on Monday afternoon.
