Schools in Mumbai to remain closed till Jan 31

Mumbai: When there has been spike of Covid-19 cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation today announced closure of schools for Classes 1 to 9 till January 31, 2022. However, physical classroom teaching for Classes 10 and 12 at schools will continue.

Additional Commissioner of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Suresh Kakani said schools for Classes 10 and 12 will operate while adhering to Covid-19 protocols.

Kakani further stated students of Classes 9 to 12 can come to schools to get a jab.

School authorities rue that many had discontinued full-fledged online classes as students started attending the classes physically in large numbers with full Covid protocols implemented.

Presently, Mumbai is the worst-hit in terms of both Covid-19 and its variant Omicron cases in the past couple of weeks.

The Covid cases are jumping up by a few thousands daily in the state which also leads in Omicron tally with 328 infected so far, though death rate is low.

Mumbai city on Sunday reported 8,063 new Covid-19 cases along with 578 recoveries.
