Schools in Puri to remain closed for 2 more days due to flood situation: S&ME Minister

Puri: Schools located in flood-affected areas of Puri district will remain closed for two more days (i.e Monday and Tuesday), School and Mass Education (S&ME) Minister Samir Ranjan Dash said today.

S&ME Minister Dash added saying that closure of the schools in waterlogged areas of Puri district has been extended further for August 22 and August 23, 2022. However, respective Collectors will take final calls regarding closure of the schools in other flood-affected districts of Odisha.

The decision will be applicable to schools in Nimapara, Gop, Delanga and Kanas blocks, Dash clarified.

It is pertinent to mention here that the surging floodwaters of Daya, Makara, Kushabhadra and Dhanua rivers have submerged many parts of Puri. More than 400 villages located under Kanas, Gop, Nimapara, Pipili, Delanga blocks in the district have been completely waterlogged.

Relief materials have not yet reached several villages of the district.
