Schools to remain closed from April 25 in Odisha

The Odisha government this evening announced the closure of schools from tomorrow in view of the prevailing heat wave in the state.

All government and private schools in the state will remain closed from tomorrow and reopen on June 19, a notification of the Department of School and Mass Education read.

“School and Mass Education department has decided to advance the summer vacation from tomorrow in view of intense heat wave conditions prevailing in the state. The schools will reopen on June 19. Extra classes will be conducted after the break to make up the backlog,” said School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra.

The notification came after normal life continued to remain affected as the mercury hovered over 40 degrees Celsius at 14 places in the state.

While Titilagarh town registered the highest day temperature at 45.5 degree Celsius,  Koraput and Phulabani were the coolest place in the state with 21.2 degree Celsius today’s minimum temperature.

At least 14 places in the state recorded day temperature over 40 degree Celsius.

While Titilagarh recorded the highest 45.5 degree Celsius, Angul 44.1, Hirakud 43.8, Talcher and Balangir 43.6, Bhawanipatna 43.5, Jharsuguda 42.6, Sambalpur 42.2, Malkangiri 42, Sonepur 41.6, Keonjhar 41.5, Phulabani 40.6 and Dhenkanal 40.4 degree Celsius.
