Scolded for playing online games, Class-VIII student ends life in Odisha

Keonjhar: Restricting a child from playing online games during studies proved costly for a father as he lost his son forever.

The incident took place at Kamarjoda area in Keonjhar district of Odisha.

The Class-VIII minor boy ended his life by hanging himself on Friday morning after his father Binod Apatta scolded him for playing games on his smartphone on Thursday night.

According to reports, the 13-year-old boy had been spending his most of times by playing games on his father’s smartphone along with attending online classes during COVID-19 restrictions. A few days ago, his father Binod had lost Rs 91,000 from his bank account.

When Binod made inquiry in the bank, the bank authorities told him that the amount was deducted from his account due to online games played on his mobile phone.

Fumed over his son, Binod scolded him on Thursday night for the act that caused monetary loss. Strongly reacting to it, the minor boy hanged himself with his mother’s saree inside a toilet yesterday morning.

The family members rescued the boy and rushed him to the Tata Steel Hospital, where he was declared dead.

An unnatural death case has been registered in this connection at the Joda Police Station.
